Other Circle Stuff

Aim: to determine the lengths of 2 intersecting chords

If 2 chords intersect in a circle, then the product of the lengths of one chord is equal to the product of the lengths of the other chord.

Because today's lesson is not found in your book, I am making up some of my own problems for you to try this weekend. Have fun!

Chords AB and CD intersect in a circle at X (YES! Draw a picture first!). Find the value of x and the lengths of each missing segment given:
  1. AX=4, XB=3x, CD=2 and XD=8
  2. AX=2x+1, XB=5, CX=10x+7, and XD= 8.
  3. AX=4x, XB=3x, CX=2, and XD=x+5
  4. AX=18x, XD=x, CX=4, and XD=1/2x + 5

Be sure to complete the Mid-Term Practice Exam on your OWN paper! Yes, that means that you should fold your paper into boxes to make your OWN answer sheet.

I will be walking around to observe your completed work. Your answer sheet should look like my solution page. Your answers should be highlighted. I should be able to follow your work to see how you arrived at an answer.

Do NOT, I repeat, do NOT, just copy my work onto your own paper! If you don't know how to do a particular problem, write out the problem and nothing else. Put a big red question mark (?) in that box so that when I ask if there are any questions, you will be able to quickly ascertain which questions you don't understand.

You should complete the mid-term practice exam at least 3x this weekend!!!!!!!!

That's it. Have a PG-13 weekend!
